# Live Chat

> Let visitors reach a person, in the live chat tool you already use.

Your AI teammate answers what they can. When a visitor wants a person, they press **Chat with a human** and your own
live chat tool opens.

You need a paid plan. Your live chat tool's own plan and limits still apply.

## Set it up

1. Open your AI teammate's **Branding**, then **Brand identity**.
2. Under **Live chat**, turn the switch on.
3. Choose your provider and paste its public ID from your provider's install code. It's never a password or API key.
4. You can change the button label. It says "Chat with a human" by default.

You don't need to add your provider's code to your website. BoostGPT loads it when a visitor asks for a person.

| Provider | What to paste |
| - | - |
| Crisp | The `CRISP_WEBSITE_ID` in your install code |
| Chatwoot | The `websiteToken` in your install code, plus your address if you host Chatwoot yourself |
| Tawk.to | The two parts after `embed.tawk.to/` in your install code, with the slash between them |
| Intercom | The letters and numbers after `apps/` in your Intercom address, plus your region |
| Zendesk | The key at the end of your messaging snippet |
| HubSpot | The account number in your tracking code |
| Custom link | Any `https://` or `mailto:` link, like a WhatsApp link or a chat page. It opens in a new tab |

## What your visitor sees

The button is on the widget's home screen, and above the message box in a conversation.

When they press it, the widget hides and your live chat opens. When they close it, the widget comes back. If they
reload the page mid-chat, they stay with your live chat.

If your live chat can't open, say because of an ad blocker, the widget comes back and tells them. They can keep chatting
with your AI teammate.

The button only appears in the chat widget. It isn't on your AI teammate's public chat page or in an iframe you embedded
yourself.

## What your team sees

Your provider receives the page the visitor was on and a link to their conversation in your Inbox, so whoever picks it
up can read what was already said. The link needs a BoostGPT login. The conversation itself isn't sent to your provider.

* **Chatwoot:** create custom attributes named `boostgpt_page` and `boostgpt_conversation` first, or they won't show.
* **HubSpot:** it doesn't accept this information, so your team won't see it.

## Good to know

* **Page speed:** nothing from your provider loads until a visitor presses the button, so it doesn't slow your pages down.
* **Privacy:** visitors who press the button connect to your provider, which may set its own cookies. Name your provider
in your privacy policy. HubSpot's script is also its tracking code, so it starts tracking a visitor once they open
  the chat.
* **Chatwoot:** after a visitor closes it, Chatwoot's own bubble stays on the page instead of your AI teammate's, until
  they open a new tab.
* **Already have your provider on your website?** BoostGPT uses that copy and leaves its launcher as it is.
* **Office hours:** your provider shows its own offline message.
